Racism (fleabag2)

jtyroler
The main reason for the claims of racism with Amos & Andy is because black characters were portrayed by white actors. Sanford & Sons had black actors playing black characters. To get a better idea how much of America viewed racism, keep in mind that this show ran for about 20-30 years before there was enough outcry about racism to get the program removed and I think that was the TV version where black actors were portraying black characters, but, was still largely written and produced by white people. That being said, Amos & Andy, if you can get past the blackface characterizations and stereotypes, many of the programs were funny and Amos became a earnest, hard working, generous person who was very kind and a loving family man.
Interesting irony.

fleabag2
Isn't it an interesting irony that the same people who are so quick to complain about the "racism" in the "Amos & Andy"radio shows don't say a thing about the "Sanford and Son" television shows that are STILL being broadcast today.
Great Collection

It's interesting to hear the introduction and number of the script before each recording. Most early Sam and Henry programs are hard to find.
