You Are Here, Re Dreaming

Isaiah 43:16-21, Philippians 3:4-14, John 12:1-8   Fifth Sunday in Lent March 17, 2013    It is one of the great lies our culture tells us, that we tell each other and ourselves:  that there comes a time when we have plateaued, grown all we’re going to grow, learned all we are going to learn, “arrived” spiritually at all we are going to be.  What emerges from today's stories, however, is the good news that God doesn’t just want survival for God’s people:  God has a dream of something new, a re-creation of sorts for God’s people even when they think they have reached end of their journey.  How might we hear and respond to this word even when we feel stuck in our ways—when we feel like the time for hope and possibility is long gone?
