The Hermit's Cave
Robert Farrell
The Hermit's Cave was a syndicated radio horror series that aired from 1930 to 1944. Originally broadcast from WJR AM in Detroit, Michigan, the show later moved to KMPC AM in Los Angeles, California, with William Conrad as producer. Over 800 episodes were produced, but less than 40 are currently available.
The show featured the character known as the Hermit, who narrated the stories. Each episode typically began with the chilling invitation: "Ghost stories, weird stories, and murders, too. The Hermit knows of them all. Turn out your lights. Turn them out. Ahhh. Have you heard the story (of) [insert episode title here]? Then listen while the Hermit tells you the story..." Throughout its run, various actors voiced the Hermit, including John Kent, Charles Penman, Toby Grimmer, and Klock Ryder.
The stories were written by Lou Huston and Herbert R. Connor, and the show was sponsored by companies such as the Carter Coal Company and the Simoniz Company.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

The Hermit's Cave sound effects
RogerKB1
My dad, Sidney Brechner, was the chief sound effects technician for The Hermit's Cave. I am seeking to nominate him to the Michigan Broadcasting Association's Hall of Fame. This program was broadcast out of Detroit in the late 1930s from the radio station WJR. The station purges its achives every 7 years and has no record of my dad. Can someone tell me if my dad worked on The Hermit's Cave when it moved to Los Angeles radio station KMPC? Any additional information you can provide specifically about my dad will be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate contact information for Robert Farrell. Thank you!!
