The Roy Rogers Show - Single Episodes
The Roy Rogers Show was a beloved radio program that combined a little song, a little riding, a little shooting, and a girl to be saved from hazard. First broadcast in 1944 on the Mutual Network, the show later switched between that and NBC throughout its decade-long run. Sponsored initially by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, it also featured support from Miles Laboratories, Quaker Oats, Post Toasties, and Dodge automobiles.
Starring Roy Rogers, the "King of the Cowboys," the show prominently featured his iconic steed Trigger and the musical group Sons of the Pioneers. Over time, Roy's wife Dale Evans and her horse Buttermilk joined the cast, along with the Riders of the Purple Sage and Foy Willing. The program was known for its transcriptions, as Roy's contractual obligations prevented live performances.
The original opening theme, "It's Round-Up Time on the Double-R-Bar," was later replaced by the famous "Happy Trails" song, written by Dale Evans. Roy often closed the show with a heartfelt phrase reflecting his Christian beliefs: "Goodbye, good luck, and may the good Lord take a likin' to ya."
