(5 stars; 1 reviews)

A 1903 reprint of a volume published in 1856, edited by Lyman Draper. Contents recorded include: three memoirs of early 19th century Wisconsin, a description of pioneer life, articles about the Black Hawk War, an account of the immigration of the Stockbridge Indians from New York, a portrait of early Mineral Point and nearby Richland County, and a few other shorter articles. The reader chose not to record the Historical Society's business records, or a history of early Kenosha County consisting mainly of documents of narrow interest.

Note to tech folks… this only offers about two minutes of the 15 hours Ted Lienhart is supposed to have given voice to. …… I have *just* finished listening to Volume One of “Collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin”, and who’d have imagined such a quietly titled “collection” could inspire such a “Rarin’ to go” response?! ……Secretary Lyman Copeland Draper was certainly a rare bird! His own life’s story about wanting to capture these singular voices was .so. *heart-twisting*, as it was in his gifts that lay the seeds of his frustration. Given his remarkable ability to appreciate detail, his incapacity to blur details enough to get a “historical perspective” should not be a surprise……but how very frustrating it must have been for him! And how difficult for others to see this sort of propensity as anything but a weakness or flaw. …….What many little windows of grace have allowed his voice to reach us. Thanks to all who are making such rare glimpses possible!
