Shades of The Prisoner of Zenda! All our old friends are here—the young king, the usurping uncle and his evil henchman, the beautiful princess, the loyal retainer and the unwilling imposter. What more could you Hope for? This fast-paced story stays far away from Tarzan’s jungle or the inner world of Pellucidar. (Summary by Delmar H Dolbier) (9 hr 22 min)

How have I never read this before!!! Fun story!!! I love how the reader changes his voice for the different characters. Also how speeds up his reading in the action scene and he gets you so wrapped up in it all, You'll find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat.. Great job!!!! I will be looking for more stories read by him..

I greatly enjoyed this book

Edgar Rice Burroughs is quickly becoming my favorite author. it is true that his characters have a tendency to be stereotypical and have repetitive personalities however the stories are extremely creative and well written even to today's standards. I think with this book I have come to believe that he can write anything. from a book like Tarzan to a book like the girl from Ferris to a book like the Mad King. the gentleman who is reading the book was also fantastic. I particularly liked his voice for the main character. very well done

Great Story

I was very pleased with this audio book. Although it was not what I expected by the title, it was a very good story.

A great story, well read.

This is a very fun story, sort of like The Prisoner of Zenda. It is a superficial resemblance. There are sufficient differences. The story is grounded on planet earth and the main character is a normal guy from Nebraska. The hero shows exceptional virtue. He is not the conflicted un-hero that is so common today. This version was well performed. It took me a little to get used to the style of the reader. But once I did, I was transported into the story. Well done.

The letter S is like a rubber shoe shuffling on a wet floor tile. Tyres screeching would be a nicer sound to try to fall asleep to with earphones in. Think how many times the letter S is used, and compared with a cheap tinny microphone that blasts high treble tones sporadically make this classic unbearable. Sorry, long day, want to wind down with a great book and every one has these same sort of issues. Some sort of quality control is needed. But hey, it's free so what should I expect. Back to the reader Mark Nelson. Search him if you have the same feelings, he is an awesome reader and consistent. When you get used to his voice nothing else is acceptable

A rip-roaring tale!

I think I’d had about enough of this story arc by the end of the second part. It may have been better to have listened to the two with a break between them for a different story. That said it’s a great story, well told by a master of the art. There’s swashbuckling and heroism and plots within plots and it’s a blast. It’s well read and well recorded. A great listen.

At the beginning I feared that I had been drawn into a less than enjoyable book. Before long I discovered that I was hooked and couldn't put it down (so to speak)This fine book was maade even better by the talented reading of Mr. Dolbier. I'll be looking for more books by this author as well as the man who read this one.

SURPRISE GEM

I never knew rhat ERB ever wrote anything other than Tarzan and great science fiction. Then I discover this great adventure offering a hero who is the combinatio of James Bond and Indiana Jones. Read it, you will love it. Thanks to Mr. Dolbier for a superlative interpretation.
