Jubilee

Jubilee ran from 1942 to 1953 and was aimed as a morale-building service for black troops, airing exclusively for military personnel. The show filled an important gap in the musical history of radio, presenting bands and entertainment that had been overlooked by mainstream networks.

Hosted by Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman, Jubilee was a vibrant and energetic program recorded before live audiences in Los Angeles. Its unique status allowed performing artists to bypass union-mandated recording bans, resulting in many discs containing rare performances. This series has emerged as a significant piece of black heritage, showcasing the talent and creativity of artists during a pivotal time.
