The story is told from a deer’s perspective. The author describes life in the wood not like a fairy tale but in a completely realistic way. Animals die, often violently, some as prey, many are killed by Man (who they refer to as “Him”). The descriptions of Nature - in all seasons from summer through winter - are vivid and detailed, from beautiful to harsh, this reader felt like she could see and feel the surroundings. Ann Fletcher is an excellent reader. The best of both: story and reader. Perfect!
