The CBS Radio Mystery Theater heralded the revival of the Golden Age of Radio. With the fine actor E. G. Marshall as the host, the series brought back those great days of mystery, suspense, drama, and a touch of history.

Initially airing daily, the series transitioned to five times a week after six years. Mr. Marshall hosted the series until its final year when Tammy Grimes took over on February 1, 1982. The cast featured long-time radio personalities alongside TV and movie actors, with most storylines newly written and produced, along with adaptations based on works by renowned authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The series concluded in early December 1982, with re-runs filling the remainder of the year.

quality sound

(3 Sterne)

I didn't grow up listening to this show (as so many others seem to have done) and I find it difficult to listen to many episodes of it because of the low quality recordings, presumably made with a bedside cassette recorder. But these episodes are a great leap forward. You can actually listen to these without the constant distraction of thinking "What was that?" or "What did she say?" Thanks for putting these up for our listening pleasure.

sound problems
