Old Gold Comedy Theater - Single Episodes
The Old Gold Comedy Theater aired over NBC for one season, from October 29, 1944 to June 10, 1945. The Lennen and Mitchell ad agency aimed to produce a comedy series for Old Gold cigarettes, a brand of the Lorillard Tobacco Company. The show was modeled after the successful format used by the Lux Radio Theatre and Cecil B. DeMille.
Harold Lloyd, a silent film star, was suggested as the host after Preston Sturges, the original choice, was unavailable. Despite his initial fear of the microphone, critics noted that Lloyd improved throughout the season. Unfortunately, the show struggled with its 30-minute format, which often required cutting too much from the original movie scripts.
On May 28, 1945, Lennen and Mitchell announced that Meet Me at Parky's would replace the show. Currently, 30 of the 32 episodes are still in circulation, with 29 coming from the estate of Harold Lloyd in their original uncut versions.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

An old time radio program I'd not heard before. Fun, if a little sexist by modern standards.
old ads will have you rolling with laughter
