The Devil and Mr. O is a transcribed syndication of original broadcasts from Lights Out. With its premiere on the nationwide NBC hookup in 1935, Lights Out was billed as "the ultimate in horror." The show was known for its graphic sound effects and chilling storytelling, creating an atmosphere of terror that captivated listeners.

Wyllis Cooper, the original creator, wrote and produced the show, using innovative sound techniques to evoke horror. After Cooper left in 1936, Arch Oboler took over, writing and directing over 100 plays between 1936 and 1938. His work further established Lights Out as a hallmark of radio horror.

This series of Lights Out was syndicated in The Devil and Mr. O offerings from 1970 to 1973, featuring broadcasts from 1942 to 1943 with Oboler as the host. Source notes: Information from "Tune In Yesterday: The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio" by John Dunning and Roger Hohenbrink.
