Lectures on Tropical Diseases

Lu par Pamela Nagami

(4.5 stars; 13 reviews)

This short volume consists of the ten lectures which Sir Patrick Manson, medical adviser to the Colonial Office, delivered in San Francisco in 1905. Valuable to this day are his clinical descriptions: the three foot Guinea worm, still treated by slowly winding it on a stick when its tail emerges from the patient's leg, filarial elephantiasis, malaria, sleeping sickness, the wasting sickness kala-azar, plus sound advice on how to diagnose puzzling tropical fevers. The book is also an inadvertent chronicle of British imperialism. - Summary by Pamela Nagami, M.D. (6 hr 25 min)

Critiques

Fascinating

(3.5 stars)

It's so fascinating to eavesdrop on pivotal moments in history, particularly medical history. The author/lecturer was knowledgeable, not only about theories, but also about techniques. It was a time in medicine when researchers were not only able to find out answers, they knew what questions to ask. Thank you, Dr Nagami; your narration is always excellent.

Excellent book.
