"Orthodoxy," a series of essays by Gilbert Keith Chesterton. First published in 1908.

"The only possible excuse for this book is that it is an answer to a challenge. Even a bad shot is dignified when he accepts a duel." This is how Chesterton explains "Orthodoxy," the sequel to Heretics. "I have attempted in a vague and personal way, in a set of mental pictures rather than in a series of deductions, to state the philosophy in which I have come to believe. I will not call it my philosophy; for I did not make it. God and humanity made it; and it made me."

This is a book about Everything, about the reasons for the entire Universe and the existance of Humanity. Andit's kinda funny. except for the serious parts and the sad parts. It's about all of life, and human life includes humor, drama and sadness, so that's all in the book, too. The chapters look longer than they are, each being roughly an hour -- and no, it wouldn't have worked to break them in half. I've found them a very quick listen.

Read with talent, tender wit and appreciative understanding by Mr. D. Grizzly Smith. Chesterton's work is widely regarded as a masterpiece which grows in relevance as our times grow more disenchanted. The author's genius is a rich and varied platter, best savoured over several unrushed sittings to aid digestion.

This book is a masterpiece. I love it. It reminds me of Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy and Augustine’s Confessions. Some people call Chesterton the Apostle of Common Sense. This book is full of common sense . It is a serious yet witty defense of Orthodoxy.

Wonderful insights into the Christian life and the meaning of Orthodoxy. I had always struggled to get past the first few chapters, but listening has helped me focus and find the real treasures, especially in the later chapters. One of C.S. Lewis's influential authors he read while growing up.

A personal and intelligent essay

Chesterton does a fine job of painting the normality of orthodox Christian life. The rich voice of the reader is a wonderful vehicle for this text. Thoroughly enjoyable.


If you dont have time for the whole book, make time for the sixth chapter. Its amazing and totally worth it.

I’ve read many books by Chesterton, and greatly enjoyed this recording. Such excellent reading made it easy to grasp the meaning of Chesterton’s words. Thank you!
