Red Pottage
Mary Cholmondeley
Leído por Simon Evers

The book follows a period in the lives of two friends, Rachel West and Hester Gresley. Rachel is a wealthy heiress who falls in love with the weak-willed Hugh Scarlett after he has broken off an affair with Lady Newhaven (which he does not originally realize has been discovered by her husband). Hester, a novelist, lives with her brother, the pompous vicar of the fictional village of Warpington.
The book caused a scandal when it was first published due to its themes of adultery, the emancipation of women and its satire of the clergy. (Wikipedia) (0 hr 11 min)

Powerful Story

Scott in Sandy Eggo
Read by Simon Evers, who breathes life into every great work that he brings to our attention, this story is along the lines of Henry James or perhaps a Russian perspective of the study of humanity. I was left stunned by the depth of conclusions of the four narrative arcs pursuant to this gripping story. It starts slow, but don’t be fooled with the beginning frivolity. And again, thank you Simon Evers for bringing yet another truly amazing story to our attention. Cheers.

I love this author and, again, she had me exploding with laughter at her tongue in cheek observations. I was mildly dissatisfied with the ending but that's probably down to my own moral shortcomings (haha). Fine reading from Mr Evers as usual (love to hear the occasional seagull during the recordings).
LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS FAIR

AVID READER
My second novel by this author. Without Simon Evers it might not have been as enjoyable. The author has a great ability to describe inner feelings, but the result in this novel is somewhat dissatisfying. The good characters in the book suffer, while the Gresly's go merrily on their way, bringing scorn on the clergy and doing great disservice to everyone they meet!
thank you, Mr Evers!

I have only just discovered this author, and adore her....and this narrator. I actually search for his recordings abd listen to novels he chose. He is perfect, abd I greatly appreciate all his hours upon hours of reading these classics. Thank you again, and again! :)
Not Bad - saved by Simon Evers

A first half that was heavy going in my view. But to be fair, in the second half the book exploded into life and was full of interest and intrigue. So overall as title above. Simon Evers was superb as ever. (richardg)

This just did not seem real to me. I really disliked nearly every character. The women really annoyed me and the men were close behind. Simon Evers however is a reading god. I would listen to him reading the evening paper. I love his seagulls!
Beautifully read

I found it really hard to get into the story until I'd listened to several chapters, but after all the characters were developed, it was quite good. Helped me get through a large painting job. Simon Evers is a great reader!
Do not miss this book

Compulsive Reader
I was not aware of this author. So glad I listened to this book. Looking forward to her other books. Thank you so much for the excellent narration. JK
