This slim volume by the Oxford University lecturer, George Henry Wakeling, deals with the period in British history from the reign of King James I through the death of Queen Anne. The story begins with England, transformed by the Protestant Reformation and keen to confront Catholic Spain, but burdened by a monarch unequal to national ambitions. An Almost Forgotten Part of History

Thank you for recording this! One hears a lot about Henry VIII, Mary, and Elizabeth I, but very little about the succeeding reigns and how religion and changing political beliefs (divine right of kings vs. the will of the governed) changed the English monarchy. Very interesting stuff! Reader is very good. It's history, not a rip-roaring drama, and is read with that in mind. But she's not dry and monotone, either. :)
