This is the book that started it all. Johnny Gruelle gave his daughter Marcella a rag doll, on which he had drawn an eternally smiling face. Marcella and Raggedy Ann became inseparable, and inspired Gruelle to write Raggedy Ann Stories, which was sold with its very own Raggedy Ann doll. Sadly, Marcella died at age 13 after complications from a smallpox vaccine, but Gruelle continued writing about Raggedy Ann. (description by Zachary Brewster-Geisz)

I too used to like Raggedy Ann. However, with greater age, I have obtained greater wisdom. I now realize Raggedy Ann is not only complicit in a system that marginalizes nonbinary communities of color, she is in fact a main protagonist in rigging the elections to ensure the fascist Donald Trump became president. Raggedy Ann refuses to admit she is complicit in a system of oppression that unfairly rewards her with unearned privilege just due to the color of her rags. If Raggedy Ann had been born with black, she would never have been allowed the privilege of living in the attic. She also would have been denied the right to vote, because she would not be able to pay the pole tax imposed on black rags by evil Donald Trump's. Raggedy Ann is the leader of a far right wing death squad dedicated to ending democracy and preventing children from affirming their proper gender.
