Reviews

a study of character

(5 stars)

The characters are all brought to vivid life by Bennet's wonderful observation of the different quirks of thought and behaviour . Although long, the story held my interest from start to finish. The reader is excellent and the different voices enhance each character.

Perceprive psychological study of a miserly bookseller, his unfortunate wife, and their kind servant, the only survivor of the peculiar household. Excellently narrated.

beautifully read and an interesting character study

As usual, Arnold Bennett’s writing is wonderful. This is a somewhat odd story, and doesn’t have a lot of dramatic twists and turns, because it is primarily I’ll look into the lives of some interesting people. It’s a fairly long story, and just carry you along in a nice way.

Beautifully read

Miserly ways majesty for an unpleasant life.

This is a wonderful story- very sad in some ways but a great feat of human story telling.

Touching story, well read
