Edgar Allan Poe's telling of Arthur Pym's narrative is shown to be true as events come together that bring out clues that help Captain Len Guy trace the fate of his brother's ship the Jane; the very ship that Arthur Pym was on board at the time of his disappearance. Through the efforts of Mr. Joerling, the crew of the Halbrane is enticed to make the trip to Antarctica to search for any survivors of the Jane. (Summary from Wikipedia) (8 hr 19 min)

maybe I am picky but I did not enjoy the narrator as much as others. she did a good job just dull during even some very exciting desturbing parts of the story. very monotonous tone and rhythm. a good story though

Verne is Wonderful

The story was great, complete with twist in the plot. The reader was good but had a pattern that didn't fit at times. All in all, good.

My Favorite

I love this book and the reading. It is so amazing how Verne interlaces Poe's original story into his own---and expands it. Very clever. You really have to listen carefully to get all the details, but it is well worth it. I give this book---and the reader---ten stars.

An enchanting and fascinating story

My brain was captivated by all the twists and turns of the story. My perception did an about face when it became clear that the legends of the Jane and Arthur Pym were true. I was so hoping that Peters would find his Pym alive. I was saddened when the remnant crew found Pym dead attached to the sphinx with Peters dying from the shock of seeing him. The reunion of the Guy brothers was unexpected due to all the catastrophes the ships suffered. But when Len Guy found his brother alive, I felt so joyful for him. ----- The narrative voice of Esther made listening a pleasure. She was able to give different characteristics to the several men's voices that she read. I will find other stories she's narrated and listen to them as well.

Great story, and well paced if a little unemotional narration with some really bad mis-pronouciations: it's "ark-a-peligo" not "ar-cha-pa-lay-go", similarly Adelaide, Australia, is not "Adelailand" and Galapagos is as spelt, not "gal-a-páy-gos". But completely listenable and top marks for narrating the whole thing - better to have one than multiple narrators in my opinion.

Antarctic mystery

Great book. Vern develops his characters like a master. Esther reads like she knows each one.

a maritime mystery

(5 étoiles)

I myself like the reader. She read in a no-nonsense and good narrative manner. This story has a number of interesting twists and turns. Unlike a number of maritime stories this one takes place in the polar region where all kinds of obstacles and circumstances abound. I think you'll enjoy the story.

Fascinating

A well told expansion of Poe's Narrative of G Gordon Pym which nicely ties up that novel's enigmatic end. If you haven't read that novel don't worry. Mr Verne incorporates a good synopsis within his own novel.
