كتاب كليلة ودمنة هي مجموعة من القصص والأمثال التي تُروى على ألسنة الحيوانات، وتُعتبر أولى روائع النثر الأدبي العربي. وتعود أصول هذه الحكايات إلى الهند، حيث تُعرف في صيغتها السنسكريتية باسم "بانشاتانترا". وقد نُقلت إلى العربية عن نسخة بالفارسية الوسطى (البهلوية) على يد عبد الله بن المقفع قرابة عام 750 ميلادي (132 هجري). وشكّل نصه نموذجاً بارزاً لأدب "نصائح الملوك" (أو "مرايا الأمراء") في العالم الإسلامي، كما لعب دوراً محورياً في الأدب العالمي؛ إذ كان وسيلةً لانتقال هذه الحكايات عبر ترجماتٍ شتى إلى مختلف أنحاء الشرق الأوسط وأوروبا. يستند هذا الكتاب الصوتي إلى طبعة لويس شيخو الصادرة عام 1905، والتي نقلت نص المخطوطة المكتشفة في دير الشير بلبنان؛ وتُعد هذه المخطوطة -المؤرخة بعام 1348 ميلادية (749 هجرية)- أقدم نسخة خطية للنص كانت متاحة للنشر آنذاك.
Kalila wa dimna is an ancient collection of animal fables, considered to be the first masterpiece of Arabic literary prose. The fables, which are of Indian origin, are known as Panchatantra in their Sanskrit form. They were translated into Arabic from a Middle Persian version circa 750 CE (132 AH) by ʿAbdullah Ibn al-Muqaffaʿ. His text became a prominent example of the genre of "Mirrors for princes" in the Islamic world. It also played a pivotal role in world literature, serving as a conduit for transmission of the fables throughout the Middle East and Europe in various translations. This audiobook is based on the 1905 edition by Louis Cheikho, which reproduced the text of the manuscript found at the Dayr al-Shir monastery in Lebanon. Dated 1348 CE (749 AH), it was the oldest known manuscript of the work available for publication at the time. (Summary by Kazbek)
