As one of the pioneers of Gothic fiction, this classic novel is seriously underrated. The story revolves around Ambrosio, the abbot, who is the epitome of a devout monk to the world, but in reality is the embodiment of lust and debauchery. The novel is full of creepy narrative (sporadically),surrealism, euphemisms, compelling scenes, sexual hysteria and romantic subplots. (Summary by shreyasethi) (14 hr 56 min)

I find the reader hard to follow...the first version much easier to follow
