Escape

(4 stars; 4 reviews)

Escape was one of the finest drama programs in the golden age of radio, dramatizing classic stories and new performances in the classic tradition. Featuring some of radio's best actors and production personnel, many of whom were regulars on Suspense and other highly rated programs, Escape was a reliable and flexibly scheduled program on CBS from 1947 to 1954.

The program had memorable broadcasts such as 'Three Skeleton Key,' which tells the story of rats taking over a ship and a lighthouse, and 'Leiningen Versus the Ants,' which presented sound effects challenges of massive fields overrun with ants. The writing was top-notch, with scripts so good that some were performed again on Suspense after Escape went off the air.

Producers and directors included radio legends like William N. Robson and Norman Macdonnell, and each episode featured great Hollywood radio voices. The recordings maintained in the Hehn Memorial Collection are considered to be of better sound quality than those in current circulation. This beloved series has been preserved using new audio technologies and techniques, ensuring its legacy continues.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
