George Simenon The Blue Room
Georges Simenon
Georges Simenon is best known for the Inspector Maigret stories, but he published scores of other books. The Blue Room (La Chambre Bleue) is believed to be one of his best. This tale of poisoned love unfolds in a village deep in rural France, where sinister flourishes, suspicion, and claustrophobia prevail.
Tony Falcone is an ordinary guy, a self-made man, the son of Italian immigrants. He sells and repairs agricultural machinery and is a womaniser, but always returns at the end of the day to his wife and daughter in the village of Saint-Justin. His passionate affair with Andrée Despierre, the daughter of a highly respected family, begins when he mends a puncture for her by the roadside.
Dramatised by Ronald Frame and produced by Patrick Rayner, this adaptation features Nick Underwood as Tony Falcone, Lucy Paterson as Andrée Despierre, Richard Greenwood as Judge Diem, and Nick Farr as Police Inspector. The story explores themes of all-consuming passion and the consequences of crime.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
