The Playboy of the Western World is a re-imagining of John Millington Synge’s iconic play, transformed into a captivating radio musical. With all music newly composed by Justin McCarthy and adapted for radio by Diarmuid de Faoite, this production invites listeners into the ‘wild west’ of Ireland.

As the story unfolds, the arrival of Christy Mahon, who confesses to being on the run for ‘killing his da’, injects fantasy and excitement into a suffocating community. The talented cast includes Stephen Jones as Christy Mahon, Aoibhinn McGinnity as Pegeen Mike, and Helen Gregg as The Widow Quinn, among others.

Directed by Gorretti Slavin, this unique adaptation was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the Television Licence Fee, making it a noteworthy addition to the world of radio drama.
