X Minus One aired on NBC from April 24, 1955, until January 9, 1958, for a total of 124 episodes, including one pilot story. The series was revived in 1973 during a period when radio was attempting to bring back radio drama, lasting until 1975. Despite its innovative storytelling, the show struggled to build a large following due to its numerous time slot changes throughout the 1950s.

This series was an extension of Dimension X, which aired on NBC from 1950 to 1951. The first fifteen scripts used for X Minus One were originally from Dimension X, but the show soon carved out its own niche. The stories were adapted from two of the most popular science fiction magazines of the time, Astounding and Galaxy, featuring works from renowned authors such as Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Poul Anderson.

X Minus One has survived from its original airing in high quality, allowing new generations to enjoy its captivating tales.
