London Contemporary Orchestra
Read by Sara Mohr-Pietsch
BBC Open Ear presents music from the leading-edge of the UK’s contemporary scene. The London Contemporary Orchestra showcases an alternative, experimental programme featuring pieces by Meredith Monk, Andrew Hamilton, and Shiva Feshareki, along with solo performances from composer/performer Neil Luck, pianist Sarah Nicolls, and electronic artist Shiva Feshareki.
Hosted by Sara Mohr-Pietsch, this concert was broadcast live from St John-at-Hackney in London. Sarah Nicolls performs on her specially designed Inside Out Piano, while Shiva Feshareki engages with turntables in duet with Kit Downes on the massive pipe organ. Neil Luck presents provocative performance-art spoken word pieces that explore themes of fragmentation and interruption.
The London Contemporary Orchestra also brings two UK premieres, one by the veteran American minimalist Meredith Monk and another by the Irish maverick Andrew Hamilton, along with a piece for two separate string ensembles by Shiva Feshareki.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
