Gelesen von J. M. Smallheer
"The Case of the Lamp That Went Out" is one of the earlier Joseph Muller stories by Austrian author, Auguste Groner, originally published in German in 1899. The English translation was published in 1910 in a collection of five detective stories in "Joseph Muller: Detective - Being the Account of Some Adventures in the Professional Experience of a Member of the Imperial Austrian Police." The body of a well-dressed man is found in a vacant lot early one morning. With very few clues and no witnesses, it is up to Muller to sort out the true reason for the crime and identify the murderer. - Summary by J. M. Smallheer (3 hr 47 min)

A short novel which had me in tears with the humanity and kindness of the main character, could guess who the killer was in the second half, but the suspense was kept up thru out, would highly recommend this!

Joseph Muller is a very interesting detective, an unusual character. Very enjoyable story. You don’t expect to feel moved by a detective story. We’ll read too.

A wonderful book! You can actually feel how the characters felt and you feel sorry for the killer. There are not a lot of characters and easy to get to know them. I hope to have more books with Detective Muller for I especially enjoyed his portrayal. Ms. Smallheer is spot on as reader. Thank you LibriVox.
A good detective story well read

What happened to the half stars for ratings? I’d give this 4.5 / 5. Escapism into an earlier era. Well paced and plotted. An interesting view on the values of that time which become integral to the plot.
Made me want to hear the ending

my first book by this author. The story was actually pretty simple with enough suspense to keep it interesting.
