Jewish Children (Yudishe Kinder)
שלום עליכם Sholem Aleichem
Leído por Adrian Praetzellis

Although written from a child's perspective, this is not a kids book but a series of funny, poignant, and sometimes disturbing stories about life in a late 19th-century Russian-Jewish village -- the world of my grandparents. Sholem Rabinovich (1859-1916) was born in Pereiaslav, Ukraine and later immigrated to New York. His short stories about Tevye and his daughters were freely adapted into the musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Rabinovich's will contained the following injunction: "Let my name be recalled with laughter or not at all." His translator, Hannah Berman, was Irish of Lithuanian descent. (7 hr 36 min)

TheBookworm
Outstanding reading of these first person tales of an eastern European Jewish village. Funny, poignant, sometimes disturbing, and exceedingly atmospheric. Thank you librivox.org! (The BookWorm, Manchester, UK)
Jewish childhood come alive!

Jou Chen 陳柔靜
An account of the childhood of a Jewish child brought alive with detailed descriptions of the characters living in his village. The reader Adrian deserves more than complements, he speaks from the soul of the child. Thanks for such heartfelt and beautiful rendering of this old book, the voice shrinks time and space, bringing me right into the country life without electronics, yet seemingly so full because of the closeness of the villagers.
Delightful and Rich
