Little Dorrit

(4.6 stars; 51 reviews)

Born in the Marshalsea Prison for Debtors, Amy—Little Dorrit—the daughter of the ruined, but self-respectful William Dorrit, has put her entire heart in caring for her dear father, until one day her humble path is crossed by Arthur Clennam. Their meeting proves providential not only for Amy's life, but for the whole Dorrit family, whose new rise will, in many ways, be also their fall. As in all his novels, in Little Dorrit Dickens ushers us into a fascinating and startlingly rich world of human characters and destinies, where virtue and nobility cross swords with vice and villainy, where strength and weakness intertwine with prejudice and magnanimity and where the author's inspired pen wields a compelling and unforgettable power over the readers. Dickens cannot be beat I don't know that he has a rival, and this narrator was very good.

Little Dorrit, Charles Dickens

(5 stars)

This is one of my favorite stories in all my reading experience. I place it as the best of Dickens's works. Some might find it lengthy. For me, the characters and setting are so captivating I find myself wishing the story had no end, but alas it does, and a happy one in a most philosophical sense. I find it to be Dickens's most effective novel in that it isn't preachy, or high-toned. The accuracy of his depiction is all the moral expose required here, and masterfully handled it was. You cannot say you know Dickens unless you know this work. You cannot say you're apprised of English literature, unless you know Dickens, and therefore must be familiar with this work in that regard.

Very Good

A really enjoyable and engaging listen. The subject is loaded with themes and ideas that permeate both the characters and the settings. A complex and dense plot that often feels disjointed but is well brought together in the end by the master of the complex plotline! Really good narration from E.Christoph. I dock it one star because whilst I really enjoy the work I do feel like there are better Dickens pieces although this is certainly top 5.

Delightful adventure

(5 stars)

International in flavor, with rich abundance of characters, it seems that Dickens created characters for every weird circumstance that he dreamed up. Through much of the novel it seems that everything is all a jumble, but Dickens seems to tie all together gradually as the story is winding down. I enjoyed this look into early 19th century customs, for Dickens was distinctly a man of his time. Little Dorrit is a character set to relish for a lifetime.

An ever endearing read!

I must say that this book has been a favorite of mine for a long time. The reading was exceptional. Thank you!

The story line is quite complicated, which is typical Dickens, with more individual characters than usual. The story line is excessively wordy in reaching the climax

(5 stars)

Typical Dickens, full of rich characters as relevant as if they were pulled from today's headlines. And Ellis Christoff does a superb job reading it.
