Reviews

great intellectual read

(5 stars)

the text itself by Roosevelt is a must read for any intellectual or person interested in the history of progessive policies in the United States. as with most librivox readings though, there are good and not so good readers. for the most part it is an enjoyable listen.

Bully

Few characters stand in history with such a degree of flamboyance coupled with undying integrity as Teddy Roosevelt. Thank you for taking these walks with me Mr President.

Theodore Roosevelt, Autobiography.

'The River Of Doubt' is a much better book, if you are interested in his life right before and during his journey to South America...

great book but ruined by a poor reader.

ch 5 part 1 is really bad. the reader seems to have a significant speech impediment. this not a personal attack, and I commend the reader for volunteering, but please redo this chapter with a different reader.

I give up! I tried to continue listening but I cannot any longer.Chapter after chapter reader after reader who mumble including one who seemed to be drinking We appreciate that people are volunteering their time to read but you should take into consideration that the sole purpose of this website is that the public will want to listen and understand what is being read. Without minimum guidelines such as speak at a normal speed and to speak clearly you are defeating the purpose of this website. Some of your readers are exceptional but others are reading like they're trying to finish the book in 30 seconds and some you just cannot understand. This is the second book i tried to listen too.The other one i think it was Mobby Dick I was really getting into until there was a change in reader's. The one reader had a very heavy Indian accent. I tried to continue listening but eventual gave up. You met your object the book is now listed on your website but isn't the goal to have the public enjoy these fine books?

An enlightening perspective on politics in a different era.

(5 stars)

While it may be that the author's perspective is necessarily less than completely objective, his account of the issues of the time, his thoughts concerning them, and his resulting actions make me pine for such straightforward talk, apparent devotion to the high ideals upon which America was founded, empathy for the ordinary man coupled with a moral integrity and earthy practicality that today's politicians are sorely lacking. Not to mention that today's citizen probably lacks the attention span to even consider the issues in an informed and intelligent manner. One hopes that this country is merely at a low point in a cycle, and has not entirely and permanently fallen from grace!

Enjoyed learning so much about a former president. Now I need a “vote for President T Roosevelt. The let down on the technical side was very frustrating. The cd hung up more times than I can count at the chapter that begins with appendix a and b Appendices. After several hundred attempts I managed to bring up appendix c and went on from there. I fell asleep and didn’t hear chapter 15 on. I wish you could help me get back to where I lost my place w/o page if they from Chapter 1.

GOOD BOOK

Found this book very informative and really enjoyed the entire book. Great job by all readers. One reader cannot ruin a whole book for me and I could understand reader in ch5 part1 just reads a little slow. Put your name on your comments next time and we can find your great narrations. Thanks so much to all volenteers we really appreciate you giving your time so we can listen to so many great books & LibriVox for making it all possible.
