After the briefest of training in England and France he joined the 181st Tunnelling Company at Silly-sur-la-Lys in Flanders in January 1916. There has been recent rediscovery of these mine workings in France and Belgium. It is amazing to hear the words written by someone who was there. A well read account by the volunteer reader and a very harrowing account of this long past piece of military history.
