A tale of mystery, suspense, murder, romance and intrigue. Set in England at a time of omnibuses, shop girls, and societal changes together with the gentry and the poor alike. A wonderful cast of characters makes this a very enjoyable read with a nail-biting ending. - Summary by Sandra Cullum (8 hr 31 min)

Hard to stop listening

(5 stars)

The story is most unusual and somewhat unnerving. Although, as it progressed, the pace picked up, it starts out slowly. Don't be discouraged and keep listening. There is much intrigue and strange goings on that increase with each chapter. The descriptions of London at the time, especially the forgotten slums are well done. The reader is SO perfect for this book. Thank you.

An examination of evil

(3 stars)

This is a very different kind of mystery story. It considers the existence of godliness and evil within the context of the mystery. I fond it too slow to get to the point. It’s not the best of this author.

Great reader

(5 stars)

the story seems promising as a horror story, but after a while the portentous non-answers to questions makes it feel like a soap opera, and then it all turns out to have a non-supernatural, if silly, explanation. the reader is outstanding. .

(4 stars)

Most William Le Queux novels are unbelievable and somewhat ridiculous, and this is one is particularly so, which is saying something. But the reader is absolutely brilliant, and she keeps you going and interested to see how it turns out. Please record more!

Strange tale

(4 stars)

Parts were drawn out too long. Protagonist is a bit of a nag. Interesting story though. Excellent reader.

The reader did a great job. Story a bit long.
