Radio Comedy : Banned and Censored Episodes
LATEST REVISION : 7 January 2026 Radio Comedy : Banned and Censored Episodes - Part 1 Presented on this page are episodes of British radio comedies and dramas which the BBC has banned or censored during the 21st Century culture wars, for allegedly being politically incorrect . These are the complete original broadcasts: presented as originally aired, before any cuts were made for political reasons. Many are rare as they are no longer broadcast, having been banned by the BBC. Additional shows are being banned and cut all the time. So I will be adding new recordings to this page from time to time, where they relate to the items originally posted here. Check back here regularly for new items. Those added are listed below, under Latest additions. I was horrified that this censorship has now spread beyond comedy, and is being reported in radio drama too. These broadcasts pre-date political correctness , so may be unsuitable for listeners of a nervous disposition! For downloading individual files, this may be the page you want: https://archive.org/download/radio-comedy-banned-and-censored-episodes Latest Additions Check back here from time to time. When I find recordings in better quality, or additional broadcasts are banned or cut, I will add further recordings to this page accordingly. To identify the most recent changes, I've included a date (highlighted in red ) of when the item was added to this page. This is so you can easily see what additions have been made since your last visit. Sometimes the very latest items are highlighted in red for clarity. The date in red also indicates roughly when I discovered the episode had been cut or banned. Sometimes this is while listening live to the radio; but it may indicate the date the cut or ban was reported to me; or it may be merely the date I was sent an uncut recording or found one on the internet: it can take a long time to obtain an undamaged version. So the date given here may be long after the occasion on which the cut or ban first happened on air. For details, see the links below. Once a certain number of recordings have been attached to a page, the page becomes slow and unwieldy to operate (when uploading further items). It therefore seemed best to divide the files approximately in half. I have accordingly opened a separate Part 2 page, to which the remainder of the recordings have been uploaded: Radio Comedy - Banned and Censored Episodes : Part 2 For details of whether an episode is banned or cut, and (if cut) what cuts were made and which repeats were cut, you might try this link (which now lists more than 800 banned and cut broadcasts ): Radio 4 Extra : Censored broadcasts - https://oldradiocomedy.wordpress.com Recordings 1. The radio recordings archived here derive from analogue sources, from a time when radio broadcasts were preserved on acetate discs, or vinyl discs, or magnetic tape. Accordingly, the sound quality may vary. 2. The recordings have been donated to the archive by listeners, not derived from professional sources. Accordingly, the sound quality may vary. 3. Few of the recordings are derived from the original broadcasts. They mostly derive from more recent repeats, which (due to improvements in technology) can sound better than off-air recordings made on non-professional equipment in the past. 4. For each recording, I have uploaded one file only: usually an .m4a or .flac file (where available). All other files with the same filename (any .afpk or .png or .mp3 files) have been created from it by the archive's automated systems, not uploaded by me. 5. If I have uploaded an .mp3 file, the other files with the same filename will NOT include an .m4a or .flac file; the .mp3 file will be the ONLY audio file. 6. In a case of doubt, examine the dates and times in the "Last modified" column (on the downloads page). For each group of files with the same filename, the file with the earliest timestamp is the file I uploaded (my master recording). 7. I only upload the clearest recording with the highest currently available bitrate. 8. If an improved recording later becomes available, I will add it (as a second version of the broadcast), but with some difference in the filename to distinguish them. 9. Where more than one recording has been uploaded (in adding an improved version), these can be told apart by a difference in the filename (such as a different repeat date), and in most cases also by a difference in the bitrate or file size. Copyright Expired Recordings The 50 year period of broadcast copyright under the UK's Copyright Acts 1956 and 1988 has expired for all items included in this collection: · Copyright Act 1956, section 14(2): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1956/74/section/14/enacted · Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, section 14(2): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/48/section/14

Do you have any better quality recordings?
Ed 999
If you have a recording of a banned or censored episode that is NOT included here, please open a free account on the Internet Archive and upload the recording to it, then leave a note of the page address in a comment (a 'Review') here. Also, if you have a better quality recording than one that is preserved here, please upload it to the Internet Archive, and post a note of the page address in a comment here. By better quality, I mean a recording with a better bitrate, such as a recording in an uncompressed format (for example, on a CD) where I only have it here as an mp3 file. If you do have an episode on CD, it is almost sure to be a better quality version than any file currently preserved here, as I have access to very few CD recordings. Leave a comment here if you need help converting a CD or a tape into a digital format, and I will help you. Help save our radio comedy heritage. Albie, if you had bothered to read the text of the link you posted, you would have noticed the section headed 'Broadcasts', which says that the copyright lasts for: "50 years from the year in which the broadcast was made."
Over half of the episodes are not available for zipped or torrent download...

...which means manually downloading them. I guess when you add titles after creating the page, that's what happens. I noticed the same issues with Banned and Censored #2. I don't know if you're still uploading, but I think a lot of people might appreciate it if you created a new page instead of uploading to a page that already exists. Hopefully it's not too much more effort on your part.

Archive.org torrents are often broken, especially for archives that receive edits and updates. Use a download manager instead. I recommend jdownloader (https://jdownloader.org) which is highly compatible with this site.
Banned lol

You wrong whingers just love to make out you're being persecuted. If they were actually banned you'd be in prison for publishing them. 😂
