Casey, Crime Photographer
NBC (1943)
COT Switched Plates
Gelesen von Matt Crowley
This is the first episode of one of radio's most popular series. The only recording we have of this episode is from scratchy discs, and they sound like glass 78s, likely only 5 minutes or so per side. Some sections are in much better condition than others. It is likely that this recording was an aircheck or a separate recording for potential presentations to ad agencies in search of sponsors.
This episode stars Matt Crowley as Casey, who portrays a character much different from the later Staats Cotsworth. The characterization is sarcastic and dismissive, reflecting a more cynical nature. The episode features John Gibson as Ethelbert, the Blue Note Cafe bartender, who is humorously noted for reading high-class publications, a sarcastic comment by Casey.
As the series evolved, the character dynamics changed significantly, with Captain Logan taking on a more prominent role. This early episode showcases the original pulp character created by George Harmon Coxe, providing a fascinating glimpse into the beginnings of the Casey, Crime Photographer series.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
