Spike Jones - Spotlight Revue
Nellie Lutcher
by
Spike Jones - Spotlight Revue features bandleader and comic musician Spike Jones in a radio variety setting. Jones was known for turning familiar musical styles into exuberant comedy, using unconventional sounds and playful musical effects alongside his ensemble.
The program brings together music and comedy, with the title identifying Nellie Lutcher as a featured performer for this broadcast. Lutcher was a singer and pianist associated with rhythm and blues and jazz, offering a contrasting musical presence alongside Jones’s comic approach.
The listening experience blends performance with irreverent musical humor, moving between polished songs and the lively, deliberately unruly spirit associated with Jones. It offers a snapshot of postwar radio variety, where musicianship and comedy share the spotlight.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
