Waste: A Tragedy in Four Acts (1906)

Leído por LibriVox Volunteers

Set in Edwardian England, Waste is a story of politics, religion and adulterous scandal. First published in 1906-7, the play was refused by the Lord Chamberlain and could therefore only be staged privately. Granville-Barker revised his play many times until it was publicly staged in 1936. The playwright included a note to H. M. Harwood in his revised edition (first published April, 1927) stating, in part: “I doubt if one scrap of the old dialogue survives; the story and the characters are here, that is all.” This Librivox recording uses the original (1906-7) script. - Summary by Brian Fullen
