George Smathers

English · Politics, Radio

Meet the Press is a television and radio interview program built around direct questioning of prominent public figures. A panel of journalists interviews a guest about current affairs, public policy, and the issues shaping the news. This recording features George Smathers, a U.S. senator from Florida.

The program’s appeal lies in its focused exchange: journalists press for clear answers, follow up on claims, and invite the guest to explain positions in detail. Rather than presenting a scripted drama, it offers a snapshot of political discussion and public life through an extended interview.

Listeners can hear how a political figure addresses questions in the moment, making the program a useful window into the concerns and language of its era. The tone is serious and conversational, with the panel’s questioning providing structure and momentum.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
