Joe Palooka
Trouble Brewing
by
Joe Palooka brings the comic-strip prizefighter to radio, following the good-hearted heavyweight through adventures shaped by boxing, friendship, and everyday trouble. Joe’s strength is matched by his modesty and decency, making him an appealing hero in stories where a bout is only one part of the action.
The program adapts the character’s world for dramatic radio, using dialogue, sound, and performance to bring its situations to life. The title “Trouble Brewing” suggests a brewing complication, while the series’ broader appeal rests on Joe’s encounters inside and outside the ring.
Warm and accessible, Joe Palooka combines sports-adventure energy with humor and an earnest, old-fashioned sense of fair play. It offers a lively portrait of a champion whose best qualities are not simply his fists, but his kindness and loyalty.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
