The Man Called X follows Ken Thurston, an American agent who travels the world investigating crimes and threats with international consequences. Working for an unnamed government agency, Thurston relies on his resourcefulness and experience as he encounters danger in unfamiliar places.

The radio series presents self-contained adventure and mystery stories, often set against the political tensions and criminal schemes of the postwar world. Thurston’s assignments take him into varied settings, where espionage, smuggling, and other forms of intrigue put him on the trail of people whose actions reach beyond local borders.

Herbert Marshall stars as Thurston, bringing a composed, assured presence to the role. The program’s dramatic narration and sound effects help establish its changing locations and suspenseful situations, giving the series the feel of a globe-spanning radio adventure.
