The Lady of the Camellias (French: La Dame aux camélias) is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, first published in 1848, that was subsequently adapted for the stage. The Lady of the Camellias premiered at the Theatre de Vaudeville in Paris, France on February 2, 1852. An instant success, Giuseppe Verdi immediately set about to put the story to music. His work became the 1853 opera La Traviata with the female protagonist "Marguerite Gautier" renamed "Violetta Valéry".

In the English-speaking world, The Lady of the Camellias became known as Camille and sixteen versions have been performed at Broadway theatres alone. The "lady of the camellias" is Marguerite Gautier, who is based on Marie Duplessis, the real life lover of author Dumas, fils. (Summary from Wikipedia) (7 hr 12 min)

uhg boring & rough reading

i am sure that MAYBE if you can get a few chapters into this book there are the makings of a good story. but the reader for chapter 1 & 2, while he was clear and understandable, was terribly choppy in his reading and lacked natural flow. but i held on until the end of chapter 3, which was a new reader. she read clear and flowing, but so soft and monotonous that she honestly put me to sleep - but to be fair what she was reading was all philosophy and thoughts and nothing really on the characters & events.

Overall a good reading, some chapters had background noise which was somewhat annoying. I like listening to all the different dialects of the readers, but I have to point out an error, namely the pronounciation of the word "fils". It is this that really lowers the score, nevertheless it was fun to listen to.

A TIMELESS story of love and redemption. The question is always, "Why.". Why the jealousy? Why the tears? Why the vengeful actions? Etc. Anyone who asks these has never truly loved.

chapter 4 has a nice reader but the rest are pretty rough... especially chapter 1/2, 6, and 9 have rough accents... I wonder why they think they can be Audio book readers
