Science Fiction is speculative literature that generally explores the consequences of ideas which are roughly consistent with nature and scientific method, but are not facts of the author’s contemporary world. The stories often represent philosophical thought experiments presented in entertaining ways. Protagonists typically “think” rather than “shoot” their way out of problems, but the definition is flexible because there are no limits on an author’s imagination. The reader-selected stories presented here were written prior to 1962 and became US public domain texts when their copyrights expired. (Summary by Gregg Margarite) (4 hr 41 min)

The search that found LibriVox for me

Vivia
Searching for a short story I wanted to reread: about the sargasso sea being a sort of Bermuda triangle of doldrums and the floating, weird seaweed called sargasso which according to the tale attracts ships and traps them for eternity. There is even a 'wreck-pack': it seems the drifting ships clump together in a multi-epoch collision of everything from every land and time, kind of like the otr show ESCAPE. ;-) turns out to be the story called ?THE BOATS OF THE GLEN CARRIG? (apparently only avail in hard copy) came up on archive.org, with THE SARGASSO OF SPACE here. I was enthralled. I was many times more impressed by LibriVox. It truly has brightened my life, audiobookworm and autodidact from way back. I uninstall down to the android bone or whatever the little suckers have, all sacrificed to LV. My tablet needs repair from exhaustion of the headphone jack. Please do yourself a favor and explore these wonderful public domain archives when next looking to your puter for entertainment. Thanks, volunteers!
A good selection

The Sargaso of Space was the stand out from this collection. Best of several readings I’ve heard of Toy Shop. Some other good stories too.
Mixed bag

LBell
Mixed bad if Sci Fi, variable quality of both readers and storys.
The Gallery
