A Tragic Story of Love and Loss

Athena’s Grandma
Well read and well written by a great author who holds my interest in every chapter. Kate’s tragic life mirrors many of us today. Be it her hasty decisions or well thought out plans, she reaps both many sorrows and joy in her life. I like a happy ending for a book and was pleased with her final fate.

An awful family, but captivating none the less. I loved the entire thing.
Uggh

The ending was redeeming because at least it showed she knew the thing she most wanted all along. BUT this is one of those books where you see the main character make stupid mistakes, and it's maddening to listen to. Not my favorite of Gene Stratton Porter's books.

Serendipity
This is a great book. It is not often that the protagonist impulsively makes so many decisions that the reader are sure are wrong but in the end helps to give her a stronger character. Don’t worry there is a wonderful ending you will all love.
complex themes and sub themes

Julia
This is a sad representation of what one person, demanding complete control, can do to everyone around. Amazing real life characters intertwined and with love- unwinding the cords of bondage from narcissism & dysfunctional relationships.
Not a very pleasant family !!

Susan
Although the characters improve through the story it is hard to listen to people mistreating each other. The land & money greed aspect was a bit tiresome. Good narration by all.
This clearly inspired The Thorn Birds

An excellent book about life’s cruelty and the balance of God. Better deserving of the title Of Mice and Men than Steinbeck’s book at times.
