A collection of twelve short stories featuring Conan Doyle's legendary detective, originally published as single stories in Strand Magazine and subsequently collected into a single volume.

There is not always a crime committed nor a culprit to find, and when there is, Holmes does not invariably get his man. However, his extraordinary powers of deduction generally solve the mystery, often to the discomfiture of the official police force. Holmes is a man of many facets, and I do not share the common perception of Holmes as cold and humourless: his sense of fun can be sparkling, and there are moments of rare pathos. This book is a series of short stories. Many I have read before. But since I love Sherlock Holmes books, I did not mind re reading them again.

Had a hard time listening to it.

just listened to one read by David Clarke so maybe that affected it or maybe it was just the book or if it was the reader I'm not sure. other than that I only listened for maybe 10 minutes other than that it was fine😊

Most are familiar with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's creative and enigmatic hero, Sherlock Holmes and his biographer, friend, and confident, Dr. Watson. This is a collection of some of Doyle's short stories highlighting the unraveling of mysteries brought to Mr. Holmes by various persons from royalty to the most low born, but all, Holmes determines, worthy of his brilliance and attention. The narrator, with her polished and unhurried English accent, is so perfect for the subject that the listener is soon transported to London during the late 19th century.

Impeccable reading.

Ruth Golding makes these stories come alive with her excellent reading skills. Each character is given a convincing voice of their own for greater dramatic impact. Thank you, Ms Golding.

Well Done

Her voice is easy to listen to and she does different voices for the characters. I'm not a fan of her Watson voice, but otherwise I love this audio version. Nicely done!
