Ah Romance with excellent narration

(5 Sterne)

This is a cute story lots of mix ups, chases, and some romance thrown in for good measure. Gail Mattern is a terrific narrator. This is the second audio book I have listened to that she narrated and she does a great job. I like narrators who know just when to make the right pauses and voice inflections. Thanks again Gail for another wonderfully narrated story.

A pleasant and interesting story

(5 Sterne)

Our hero is a secret agent on his first mission. On the run from bad guys, he gets mistaken for someone else and ends up getting married! Not to be put down, he outwits the baddies, rescues his new bride from her distress and finishes up in everything well. The story is quite fast paced and exciting in the beginning. It somewhat slows down, but gets nice and romantic in the end. A nice story altogether. The reader had a pleasant voice, and did a great job in conveying the mood of the story and characters with her tone. Many thanks

Quaint Mystery Romance

This has it all,.for the Females amongst the LibriVox listeners....Though some of our Male listeners may enjoy the story it is, I believe, a bit too Romantic for most of the Men. It is not without moments of adventure and intrigue, however, my nervous anxiety was all about the Hero, failing to win his Lady Love!

The Best Man - charmingly read

(4.5 Sterne)

Grace Livingston Hill is one of my favorite authors. Her books are, in my experience to date, always family- friendly, wholesome romances with a touch of humor. Part of the humor comes from understanding the time period in which they were written and having to suspend belief in the situations in which the hero /heroine find themselves for example, the hero in this book is escaping a dangerous and possibly life-threatening dinner meeting. In running away he finds himself at a church - in a wedding ceremony! His understanding that he is the groom - not the best man as he had thought - suddenly becomes clear. I was amused and had to suspend practical thought - but that can be part of the charm of stories, the role your imagination plays.

Holds Up Well

(4 Sterne)

Chase scenes, coded messages, people sneaking off trains, villainous henchman in ill-fitting evening clothes: sounds like a spy story, right? Groom doesn't show up for the wedding, stranger bumbles into the church and ends up married to the most appealing woman in the world, their first date is a walk down a country road, she falls in love with him: now we have a romantic comedy. Somehow, GLH melds these two stories and makes them work. I don't remember how many times I've read this book (I owned it in paperback back when the dinosaurs roamed) but it holds up well! The narration is very good, too.
