I read this story first, when I was a teenager, and actually own a copy. Our family read it out loud to each other as we drove on vacation and her family van. It was really fun to hear other people reading it although, the pronunciations of the names we did differently as you would expect. There were parts of it, that I had forgotten because it was so many years ago, and it was fun to hear them expressed, it felt like, in a different way. The first reader, who read the first book, did an excellent job with the voices and the language challenges, the way Jeffrey F. wrote it. His stories are fun and many times unexpected, and having such a historical element-
It grows on you enormously- fun!

It starts slowly and gains momentum throughout the book, until a life-and-death chase had my heart pounding. It is imperfect- we don’t get to hear the motives behind our hero’s actions, which are often baffling. He seems as pleased to have a knock-down brawl with a perfect stranger as pass the time of day. I understood all before the book was half over, but I was curious how the author was going to get from here to there.
Satisfying!

I found this story after listening to "The Money Moon" by the same author. This book is just as satisfying as that one. The characters are colorful, the protagonist is sympathetic, and the heroine is mysterious and unpredictable. One can probably guess the final outcome, but the way the author gets us there is worth the journey. Readers are all easy to understand and range from very good to excellent. Sound quality is all very good.
Lovely book from a better time

Mr. Farnol adopts the leisurely pace of his hero but manages to find adventure and romance. Best of all, he never condescends to the rustics we meet and, indeed, the hero grows in stature and wisdom as he grows more like them. Don’t be put off by some tediously repetitious dialogue and outrageous coincidences; just enjoy the journey. And many thanks to the fine readers.

This is fun, a little long in places and doesn’t really explain some plot leaps, but a different regency novel. I enjoyed the village characters.

I loved the writing style of the author. The first part of the story is an adventure and the second is the sweetest love story.
fun book

Good adventure romance. Some lofty characters, but good entertainment... better than most movies out there.
Excellent book
