The Art of Travel
Sir Francis Galton
Lu par LibriVox Volunteers

The Art of Travel is a handbook of practical advice for the adventure seeking Victorian. We hear how to organize all steps of a voyage, from the very beginnings (qualifications of a traveller, how to organize an expedition, the perfect outfit), to the actual trip (how to choose a bivouac, huts and tents, what game to shoot - and how, as well as dealing with (hostile) savages), until the final, hopefully successful, return of the traveller (arranging memoranda). Critiques
A plethora of information

Stephan xx
Fascinating book, I will give it a second listen. A plethora of information: a time document of the state of science of that time and how expeditions looked like. Many clever tips regarding mostly everything: outdoor life, equipment and it's maintenance, animals, people, dietary and so on. Some are still to good use today, others obsolete and funny. Inspiring that in that time even laymen with the interest and financial resources could contribute to the extension of science and knowledge. I would like to see the illustrations too, so maybe I will buy a reprint.
