John Caldigate
Anthony Trollope
Lu par Simon Evers

After a rather dissolute youth and having been disowned by his father, John Caldigate sets sail for Australia with his friend Dick Shand hoping to make his fortune in the goldfields in New South Wales. On the voyage, he meets Euphemia Smith and they conduct an indiscreet affair aboard.
After various problems, Caldigate literally strikes gold and returns to England. On his return, Caldigate meets and marries a previous acquaintance, Hester Bolton, and they have a son. He sets himself up as his father’s heir and life seems perfect. However, Euphemia suddenly reappears and claims they were married in Australia, making Caldigate a bigamist and his son illegitimate. Great reading, good story

Mali Taus
This is a good story but perhaps lessened by its length. At 19 hours it's long in the telling but enjoyable enough thanks to the excellent narration.
Superb!

Judy
Great story, characterization and reader! Trollope is amazing! Another Dickens! As is usual, starts out slow but then it picks up speed .... Don't miss it!
Great Reader.

Mr Troloppe writes an interesting if not a somewhat long-winded story. Because the reader is so good it is pleasant to hear.

SR
a lovely reading and a great yarn - just complicated enough and with plenty of twists and turns.

enjoyed the reader & the story. thanks
judging, jealousy, diligence, pride, hatred, wisdom, etc. the "human" condition

Trollope does it best and although lengthy keeps you in suspense, wondering how it will all turn out. I agree with the other excellent reviews on here and only subtracted half a star to compare this story with others that I liked even more such as Dr. Thorne and The Pallister Trilogy. Of course great thanks to the amazing reader, who is most professional and talented. How generous to donate so much of his time, since, you will find, he has read many more of these lengthy classics on Librivox.
Been in the 19C all day

Some writers “show it” and some “tell it”. Trollope is the foremost teller of each phenomenon ( also he’s so gifted at dialogue that he’s showing it the whole time too) Anyway how he carefully explains the weirdness of a judge’s reasoning-how wildly inaccurate he is while considering himself the soul of logic! Trollope is, in his telling, providing a painless education in lots of strange areas of life in those days. Plus he’s nice and warm-hearted. And I intend to listen to every Simon Evers recording and I thank him 10,000 times.
great reader! and a great book if you are a patient listener.

Trollope can be a little wordy sometime, making the same point several times. But he is a great writer who consequently gets you into the details of the characters mindsets and emotions. Simon Every is a brilliant reader - good inflections to highlight irony and humor, easy to understand, keeps up a good pace and has a very pleasant voice. Also love Trollope's complex characters.
