A Spinner in the Sun (version 2 dramatic reading)
Myrtle Reed

Myrtle Reed may always be depended upon to write a story in which poetry, charm, tenderness and humor are combined into a clever and entertaining book. Her characters are delightful and she always displays a quaint humor of expression and a quiet feeling of pathos which give a touch of active realism to all her writings. In "A Spinner in the Sun" she tells an old-fashioned love story, of a veiled lady who lives in solitude and whose features her neighbors have never seen. There is a mystery at the heart of the book that throws over it the glamour of romance (Summary by Summary by Grosset & Dunlap publishers, 1913)

AMAZING BOOK & READERS

jaded_grl
very deserving of 5 stars! great job by the readers, aunt hitties reader was a little off at first but got much better & brought a huge smile to my face when she was "singing". piper tom was perfectly casted, all of his lines brought light to my face. a wonderful writter too. i think the resolution in this story, the ending the older Dr & the veiled woman both have, is a good ending and not what i was expecting at first. such a wonderful story to teach you about holding on to things in your life that matter most & not holding on to the bad things and ruining the rest of your life. the explaination of days being like children bringing gifts - good & bad - is wonderful.
Memorable Story, Beautifully Read

Another first-rate dramatic reading. The simple story about a long-ago heartbreak and the need to forgive is filled with memorable scenes and characters. All the readers were well-suited to their character. John Trevithick reading Piper Tom is amazing. I will be keeping this novel on my MP3 player a little longer and listen again to the Piper Tom moments. Absolutely wonderful! Trisha G was delightful as the gossipy neighbor Miss Mehitable, Well Done! I must caution that the story does include themes of suicide and animal cruelty. It is an emotional story and more than one tissue may be needed. ________ A note about locating the dramatic readings: The dramatic versions are not always listed under Dramatic Reading in the subject search. So far, the best way that I have found to locate this amazing collection is to search (dramatic reading) with parenthesis included.
Good but incomplete

I enjoyed the evocative descriptions and philosophical exchanges around faith, love, and grief, but a couple loose ends were never tied up: exactly why did Dr. Dexter flee, and what was the point of the throw in scene of Mehitable at the end, seemingly unsupported anywhere else in the story?
a rare find

Thank you readers for an unexpected story find . I found the selection by accident while wondering through the shelves an found a new author and an excellent presentation. A plot filled with messages that reached me. Thank you .
trigger warning

very compelling, useful look at grief management, there are extra biblical religious theories about what comes after life, but if you are sensitive to graphic animal cruelty, this book turned into a nauseating horrific nightmare.
Love it!

First book I read about this author and I really liked it! It has mystery, fun and a little of romance. Very good book. Wonderful readers 👏👏👏
One apple spoiled the bushel

I realize the readers are volunteers but it's a shame when one of them is so off. I could not get through the book.
Loved every word!

Beautifully performed. Hated to have it end so quickly. I felt the author could of continued the story further. Loved the voice acting so much!!
