Betty Wales, Freshman
Margaret Warde
Leído por Daryl Wor

First published in 1904, Betty Wales Freshman is the first book in an 8 volume series that follows Betty and her classmates throughout college and beyond. It takes place at Harding in New England (NOT to be confused with the Arkansas university) based on the author's time at Smith College in Massachusetts. Some humour and frivolity ensue as well as interpersonal drama among Betty and her many peers. And of course, the usual fascination with basketball that tends to run the gamut in the bountiful supply of books about most boarding school girls. (The popularity of this series inspired product placement by a dressmakers company.) (Summary by Daryl Wor) (6 hr 17 min)

I first read the Betty Wales books mote than 40 years ago. They belonged to my Granny who went to Wellesley in the class of 190-.. I own the books now, well worn and much loved They are books of their time and ftimeless as well. Respect yourself and others, nice matters, work and play are both important, women don't need men to define themselves,, women can rescue themselves, social standing is nowhere near as important as courage, loyalty and generousity of spirit. The reader has a lovely presence and differentiates the characters well. This book was my bedtime reading for several evenings. Now I'm going to dig out my copy of Betty Wales Sophmore and read it allowed to my dogs <G>.
