A Spaceship Named McGuire
Randall Garrett
Read by Phil Chenevert
Can a spaceship go crazy? Well, yes it can if it has a brain. And the new MG (magnetogravitic drive) experimental robot space ship does indeed have a 'brain'. Completely bewildered as to why the first six models of their supposedly perfect new ship model, the MG-YR, nicknamed the McGuire, have gone totally bonkers after activation and before they could ever be used, the company has called in the services of Daniel Oak. They suspect sabotage of course. Daniel Oak is the hard boiled private investigator with nerves of steel and a mind of the same substance. He is extremely expensive to hire but gets results; and he knows his way around crime, space ships and especially women. What he finds out is surprising! (Summary by Phil Chenevert) (1 hr 42 min)

Good story!

Story is text book Sci Fi. But Phil Chenevert makes it awesome. Pretty common for Phil!
Too good, too short.

To make up the time/story I was cheated out of, I listened to the first 5 and a half minutes 4 more times . Yes, they were that good. And after the reading, for some unknown reason my mind recalled Mike Hammer.
Classic Sci-fi

Phil is the best. I use the first name only, because I can never remember the spelling. Kind of sad because I have listened to everything Phil has narrated, with exception of the Oz books.
Neat story

Short story with a neat twist at the end. I plan to look for more stories by this author. Reader is excellent (as always!). Enjoy!
A great fun short story

I enjoyed this one, there’s a few little bits of slightly cringey “we don’t talk to/about women that way now” moments but hey, it’s an old book and it’s context of it’s time I guess. The reading is excellent and you can’t go wrong with the price :)
Crime noir laced sci-fi. Very good.

Phil does an amazing job on this and its sequel, His Master's Voice!
Mildly entertaining

Without this reader, the story would be a 3. It's a little too cutsie for me.
Great classic sci-fi

Classic fun, sci-fi from a great era. Phil Chenevert does great as usual.
