The Defiant Agents (Version 2)
Andre Norton
Read by Mark Nelson
Operation Cochise: a carefully planned Western move to colonize a planet ahead of the Reds. Travis Fox had been an eager volunteer, but the morning he dragged himself half-conscious from the wrecked spaceship on the planet Topaz, he sensed the terror which would threaten the project. Travis never learned why the ship had crashed, nor why he and the other Apache agents had been shot into space without warning and under Redax control, a machine which had returned them to ancestral mentality. But the dangers on Topaz demanded free minds, for Travis soon realized that if the Reds already encamped beyond the mountains--a horde of barbaric Mongols completely dominated by their masters--discovered the secret of the eerie underground chamber in the towers hidden in a valley of mists, not only Topaz but Terra itself would be destroyed. Reviews
Very much a book of its time!
David Wicks
Though I certainly enjoyed listening to this book by Andre Norton, readers or listeners should be aware that there are views expressed which very much date the story to the late 50s and early 60s, namely the Cold War period. Having said that, I still found it interesting to read a story written from a very different perspective than the one we have in 2019. How will future readers judge stories written now, I wonder?

Delightful Tale with native American adventure transplanted to a foreign world. Excellent reader!
An interesting story concept well done

Andre Norton usually gives us more adventure to science fiction than most and this is no exception. its a wonderful excercise in speculative fiction. I note a comment in a reviewer wondering how the cold War setting translates to 2019. Well its 2022 and it seems very relevant now! funny hoe history repeats itself when you think it's all in the past! Mark Nelson brings the tale to life as ever

This sequel to "Time Traders", then "Galactic Derelict", is a fun story, as long as you listen with ears tuned to past standards and science. The main character makes a few references to the previous stories, but this book does stand on its own just fine. Read "Key Out of Time" for the 4th book of this series.
Interesting concept
David Patty
The book was well narrated. The concept was a different one. But the storyline was something you had heard before. To form allies in order to defeat a common enemy. The twist on that concept left me wondering if it really added to the story. All together not a bad space adventure.
Odd blend of characters

Great concept but I didn't care much for the setting. It did have some interesting situations. Maybe I will try to listen again another time. Very well read.
Escapism at itâs best

The Defiant Agents is another good story by Andre Norton. Not her best work, but a good addition to the Time Traders series.
